Wolves’ 2023/24 EFL Trophy opponents confirmed

Wolves have been drawn against Derby County, Lincoln City and Notts County as the under-21s are set to play in the EFL Trophy during the upcoming 2023/24 season.

James Collins’ side will be looking at making the knockout stages for the fourth time in five seasons, as they are once again one of 16 invited Academy teams to join the 48 clubs in League One and League Two who will make up the competition this year.

Wolves were ball number eight in the Northern section of Thursday morning’s draw and were placed in Group G alongside Derby, Lincoln and Notts County – who return to the EFL after their National League play-off final victory in May.

The under-21s will travel away to all three teams during the course of the 2023/24 season as the four teams in the group play each other once in the first round of the tournament, with the top two teams from each group making it into round two.

Last season, Wolves impressively navigated their way through the group stages with six points from a possible nine thanks to 2-1 victories on the road at Shrewsbury Town and Stockport County ensured qualification into the round of 32.

However, Wolves’ campaign came to an end in the second round at Molineux, where the Old Gold fell just short of a place in the last 16 as Manchester United’s youngsters progressed on penalties following a goalless 90 minutes.

Fixture details for the 2023/24 EFL Trophy will be confirmed in due course.
