U21 preview | Liverpool vs Wolves

Wolves under-21s travel to Liverpool in PL2 on Saturday afternoon, knowing they can leapfrog their opponents with three points at Kirkby Academy.

Please note, due to Premier League broadcasting restrictions, Saturday afternoon’s Premier League 2 Division 1 fixture with Liverpool will not be live streamed.

Ian Sharps and Darren Ryan will be leading the team in the absence of head coach James Collins who, alongside Steve Davis, has been preparing the first team for the trip to Chelsea in the Premier League.

The 21s came up short against Manchester City last time out, despite taking the lead through Joe Hodge and creating several opportunities to add to their tally over the course of the afternoon.

Last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat ended a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions for Wolves, who had enjoyed success in the Papa John’s Trophy alongside successive league draws. However, the old gold haven’t tasted victory in PL2 since August, so will be keen to get back on the winning trail in Liverpool.

Saturday’s hosts sit four places and two points above Wolves having lost just one of their seven league encounters this season.

The Reds are unbeaten since their opening day defeat to Man City and come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, where Barry Lewtas’ side were denied victory late on from the spot.

Wolves have a one-week break ahead of next weekend’s PL2 clash versus Tottenham Hotspur at Aggborough.
