Ollie Tipton felt Wolves under-23s’ victory over Birmingham City was well deserved having ‘dominated’ their clash with the Blues, although it took his second-half penalty and a wonder-strike from captain Luke Cundle to leave St Andrew’s with three points.
The boyhood Wolves supporter – who moved up to the under-23s in the summer having captained the under-18s last season – bagged his first goal for the development squad, continuing the role he played to almost perfection for the 18s where he netted eight times from the spot. But the centre-back admitted he felt the pressure, with his side being behind, despite Birmingham being down to 10-men since the 10th minute, at the time of stepping up.
On three points at St Andrew’s
“I thought we dominated the game, obviously the sending off helped, but I think that came from us, getting the balls down the side early, which is something we speak about.
“The setback came with the goal, but I think we just stuck at it well, we kept doing the basics right, we kept moving the ball quick, and finally we found the opening with the penalty, and a bit of class from Cundle as well.
“We had a tough result last week at Crewe, so it was good for the boys today to step back up and get the win because that was quite a tough result to take last week.”

On playing against 10-men
“You just have to be patient and you’ve got to stick at it, no matter what. You can’t get bored of the ball and start doing things [you shouldn’t].
“But we just stuck to the gameplan and we got the two goals in the end. Of course, the gameplan did change, but we had to stick through it, be patient and keep moving the ball.
“Even though it looked like we were moving the ball side to side, we had to wait for that opening, and when that opening came, we took it well.”
On feeling the pressure with his equalising penalty
“I did feel the pressure, to be honest., but that’s what football’s about, those pressure moments. I missed a few in pre-season. I missed two and that was the first one back, so it was good to get it.
“[The secret is to] wait for the keeper. Wait for the keeper to make his move. You’ve got to be confident and trust in yourself. Trust that you’re going to score.
“It means a lot to score in a derby. One day, hopefully it will be in front of the fans.”

On Cundle’s match-winning stunning
“It was an unreal goal. I thought he was really good tonight. He really stepped up and it was a great goal as well.
“He’s playing his best football at the minute, he’s doing really well, and hopefully he’ll get his chance soon with the first-team.”
On his start to the season
“It’s been good. I had an injury which put me out for about 17 weeks, so my form isn’t going to come straight away.
“I’ve got to build it up and build it up, but hopefully I can get that form coming. But it’s been good to be back on the pitch.”
