Under 21s

Roberts | On his brace at Everton and loan with Doncaster

2 min read

Tyler Roberts was pleased to get his name on the scoresheet twice in Friday’s 2-0 victory at Everton in Premier League 2.

The under-21s attacker was tasked with leading the line for James Collins’ side and he did so expertly, netting a goal in each half to secure the three points. Roberts has spoken about playing the number nine role, being in the right position to score goals, his loan at Doncaster Rovers during the first half of the season and the impact of younger players in the group.

On three points and two goals

“The lads were excellent all round. I’m happy with the two goals which were two poacher goals, but they all count and I’m happy with my performance.

“It’s a bit different (playing up front) but I feel like I’m a versatile player – I can play up front or on the wing. It’s good to get experiences in both positions to become even more versatile.”

On being in the right position to score goals

“It’s a big part of a strikers game, to be able to be in those positions to get those goals. They all count.

“We’ve got two goals from it, won the game and got the three points.”

On coming back from injury and his loan at Doncaster

“Getting injured is never ideal but I’m glad to be back, glad to be back playing and enjoying building up to full fitness and getting some minutes under my belt.

“I loved it (at Doncaster). It’s your introduction to first-team football and I got to play against some good teams.

“I really got to know what football’s about. Even just the training, you get to see how different it is to under-21s football. I really enjoyed the experience.”

On young players stepping up

“I was impressed with all of them. They didn’t shy away from the challenge, they didn’t look out of place at all.

“Voicey (Caden Voice) really stepped up at the back, Wes (Okoduwa) was strong and did so well.

“The lads coming on, Luke (Rawlings) and Alvin (Ayman), kept the same standard as the people who left the pitch had.”
