Hodge | On comeback win and Shrewsbury brace

2 min read

Scoring goals is a feeling Joe Hodge wants to experience a lot more often, after notching twice in the Papa John’s Trophy victory at Shrewsbury Town.

The midfielder was on hand to secure a late comeback success at the League One outfit, finding himself in the opposing penalty area on two separate occasions before hitting the back of the net.

Despite controlling much of the game, Wolves fell behind with little under 15 minutes remaining, but captain Hodge stepped up to the plate to drag his side over the line with a leveller and then an emphatic 93rd minute winner.

On sticking to the task

“I’m delighted because it’s a game I thought we should’ve won. We played really well on the night, and it was frustrating that we had to win it that late, but it’s a win and three points which we’re happy with.

“We were the better team throughout the 90 minutes and just had a little blip when we conceded.

“It’s all about patience and we knew in the end it’d come if we stuck to it.”

On his two goals

“The first one I just saw the ball and had to hit it first time – I kept it low, got the luck of the bounce and it ended up in the goal.

“For the second one, I just opened up and squared up the man. I had to make a yard to hit it and then fortunately it went in.”

On adding more goals to his game

“It’s probably something I’ve not had enough of since I signed here and started playing. I think it’s something I’ve got the quality to be able to do, so the more I can do of it the better.

“I’m getting sharper and sharper every day – I’m just happy to be training and playing each game.”
