Giles heads for Blackburn loan

2 min read

Ryan Giles has joined Blackburn Rovers on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 Championship season.

The latest temporary move from Wolves sees the left-sided 22-year-old make a swift return to the second tier following a successful period on loan with Cardiff City during the first half of the campaign.

Giles greatly impressed at the Bluebirds earlier this season, topping the assist charts in the division ahead of returning to Molineux at the start of January to provide another option to Bruno Lage’s first-team squad.

The Academy graduate is nearing 100 senior appearances, following previous loan spells with Rotherham United, Coventry City and Shrewsbury Town, and the Telford-born youngster will look to reach his century by helping Blackburn in their quest to achieve Premier League promotion.

Matt Jackson, Wolves’ strategic player marketing manager, said: “Ryan’s had a really good output in the league in terms of statistical performance in an attacking sense, and now he’s going to experience the pressures around a promotion push to the Premier League.

“Cardiff looked after him really well, but this move to Blackburn will be a great challenge for Ryan, as he joins a club who have been excellent in the Championship so far this season.

“He’s been working really well with the first-team since he came back at the start of the month and Bruno has been fully informed all the way through the process and allowed him to go back out on loan.

“Although he is still relatively young, Ryan has played a lot of games, which is a great sign, and we believe this new challenge will help him to progress as much as a young player can.”
