Fraser | On being in Mumbai, experiencing the culture and scoring goals

3 min read

Nathan Fraser’s two goals helped Wolves under-19s to a 4-0 win in their opening game of the Premier League’s Next Generation Cup, and the striker has admitted he is loving life in Mumbai.

Although eyes on a tournament victory is the target for James Collins’ side, Fraser wants to make the most of the experience on Indian soil and soak in the unfamiliar and different culture, suggesting that the “liveliness” of the country means there is always something going on.

On being in Mumbai

“I love it. When you’re on the bus you can look out the window and the culture is just different.

“When you’re in England all the time it gets a bit boring. Coming here it’s energetic and I’m enjoying it.”

On what he likes most about India

“The liveliness. When you’re on the roads in England it’s calm but here there are horns going off everywhere.

“When you’re on the bus you don’t have to go on your phone – you can just look out your window and there’s always something going on.

“We want to win the games so we’ll focus on that, but when we’re not playing and recovering we want to experience the culture and do different things.”

On the first game against Everton

“It was good. It was hot, but scoring an early goal took the pressure off us and we could keep it around the back.

“We had a lot of the ball which meant we didn’t need to do so much running so it was a good start.

“Coming here with the weather and different surface, you don’t really know what to expect but scoring early eases everyone.

“You can start to enjoy the game a bit more and start to play a few of our patterns with less pressure.”

On scoring goals

“We knew going into the second half that we had the better of them and that we should score more.

“We were confident of getting more and managed to score three, but we could have got even more but we’re happy with four.

“Scoring as a striker gives me more confidence but carrying it on each game is even better. I scored another two today but wanted to score more – I wanted to get three or four.

“I’ll look to the next game and try and score there as well.”
