Wolves under-21s came from behind to defeat leaders Manchester City in Premier League 2 at Aggborough Stadium on Friday night.

In what was Manchester City’s second defeat of the season, Wolves fought back from a goal down to earn three points as Tawanda Chirewa scored a brace and Dani Angel rounded off a fantastic performance.

Following his side’s victory against Crystal Palace last week, James Collins made three changes to the starting 11 including Nathan Fraser, who earned his first start since a loan move away from the club.

The away side opened the scoring in the third minute, as Emilio Lawrence’s lobbed effort found the back of the net to give City the lead.

After limited opportunities, Wolves created their best chance of the half as Chirewa’s strike forced Oliver Whatmuff into a save which rebounded towards Tom Edozie, but the goalkeeper claimed the attempt comfortably.

Collins’ side continued to threaten the City goal with Justin Hubner and Boubacar Traore both having respected chances but could not find the goal they needed before the break.

After the interval, Chirewa continued to test Whatmuff, this time with a long-range effort which forced the goalkeeper into a diving save.

It was the number 11 that got Wolves level near the hour mark, after pouncing on a mistake from Max Alleyane, Chirewa calmy slotted the ball into the bottom corner to get Wolves level.

Chirewa was a driving force for Wolves and proved to be too much for City to deal with. After he was fouled inside the area, the attacker stepped up from 12 yards and slotted the ball into the bottom corner to give Wolves the advantage.

To round off a determined performance, Angel added a third inside the final 10 minutes. City’s attempt to clear fell straight into the path of Angel, who tapped the ball past Whatmuff to score his second goal in successive games.
