Harper signs first professional contract

Young midfielder Fraser Harper has been rewarded with a first professional contract at the club.

The 17-year-old has put pen-to-paper shortly after signing a scholarship at Molineux back in the summer.

Harper first arrived at Wolves from Bristol City as a 13-year-old and has shown maturity beyond his years with performances in the under-18s and under-21s.

The midfielder has become an established member of Richard Walker’s 18s but has also tasted action higher up with James Collins’ 21s squad.

Harper scored the winner on his under-21s debut last December when he struck the winner in a Premier League Cup tie at Cardiff City.

This season, Harper has already earned minutes in Premier League 2 and was on the bench in the EFL Trophy victory at Notts County, before scoring goals for the under-18s in away fixtures at Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, is looking forward to the next stages of Harper’s progression and said: “We’re excited that Fraser has agreed his first pro with us since coming across from Bristol City aged 13. It’s a great moment for him and his family.

“Fraser shows some really good maturity, both on and off the pitch, and is a great example of how the full-time programme can work. He’s extremely quick and expresses himself when he gets on the ball and can really drive through midfield to create or score.

“I’m looking forward to seeing some consistency and continuity for him within the under-18s environment. We then want him to be ready for when he gets the call to step into the under-21s environment.

“He has a diverse training programme which gives him the opportunity to show and impress across both groups.”
